08:44 pm - Did you see how I cleverly softened you up beforehand with a half-assed ficlet?
THE FANFICTION LOVE MEME

Yeah I, um, don't really have any suitable, say, apology to add here. :'D

08:03 pm - Yayyyyy where no woman.
Title: Soldier
Author: [info]possibly_thrice
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Spock/Uhura
Summary: Uhura is not often called upon to kill, as a linguistics officer, but 'not often' is not the same as 'never'. And then she... copes, while Spock observes, and a shade less than everything goes unsaid.
A/N: A peace-keeping armada, ahahahaha, good one, Pike. I also didn't actually provide any context like at all ever because I am skilled like that.

41) It's a hell of a thing, killin' a man. You take away all he's got, and all he's ever going to have. )

10:20 pm - comment!fic written for igrockspock
Prompt: You only get one chance to tell people they are wrong,
You get that chance because it takes people a minute or two
to realize you’re telling them stuff they don’t want to hear.
Then, they shut you out,
thought they still might be standing before you,
smiling,
they make sure the door between the ear and the heart is locked
and they forever take away your key.
(from the poem "Tamam" by Betty Shamieh)

Ficlet: They sit down at the same time on their respective sides of the little round table. It is 4:02 AM, and Len breathes in and reaches out and laces his hand in hers. She looks at the uneven mesh of their fingers: hers long, bulbous, bent back from her palm; his short, terrifyingly thin, curled forward over hers like a bird's beak. She looks up again. The warm broad light of the kitchen picks out the glinting lines of salt water that are tucked between his eyeballs and the pink inner lids.

He hasn't said anything to her for thirty seven hours. But she leans forward and brushes her lips against his short, ragged nails, which catch on the chapped skin, and he says, "Jocelyn," and "God," like they might be one desperate, awful word. His voice is a mess, the soft rolling sound she loves butchered by his alcohol-raw throat and the uncounted half-accents he picked up at conferences held hundreds of miles from what was home, once.

"Shh," she mouths, lipping his knuckles like a horse looking for sugar.

"Why are we doing this?" he asks, and through her lashes she can see his face. "We can get through this. Jocelyn. Please."

"No," she says, as gently as she knows how (she spent her cruelty filling out the forms); "we can't."

He swallows; her gaze tracks the movement of his throat and slides up to the bitterness sliding across his glazed eyes. His mouth is open just enough that she can see the edge of his teeth. She wonders if he will ever hear another word she tells him, and decides: probably not.

Also?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, GUYS. I'm going to go fall over now.

09:48 pm - Idle not-quite-thinking about pairings.
I said some time ago that I pretty much love all Star Trek pairings ever, and this is true. But I do have preferences, I realized today! And I can tell there are weird things happening in my head because I base these preferences pretty much purely based on the characters' names, and how well, according to some bizarre subconscious taxonomy system, they fit together. Sometimes this changes if I add in another name! Crazy. Particularly in my own writing-- to a lesser degree in everyone else's. This is why I prefer Kirk/McCoy/Chekov to Kirk/McCoy, and Kirk/Spock/Uhura to Kirk/Spock and to a much lesser degree to Spock/Uhura, and Scotty/Chekov to Kirk/Chekov, etc., etc. The only meaningful reason for my differentiating at all.

(Pike is in a category all on his lonesome, since you ask. I can love him with anyone ever. His name is so versatile!)

...I am designed by bored gods to be unable to partake in a proper ship war ever, huh.

Ah well.

11:58 am - ffs.
I was going to post that bby!Kirk fic and have done with it and then, you guys, then I made the fatal mistake of rereading. And it needs to be at least twice as long and-- and-- and I'm getting so bad at this writing new material rather than just editing business--

So, uh, give me a fandom I'm in, a character or pairing (or threesome), and a prompt (word, image, phrase, poem, reference, whatever) and I'll give you something creative made of words. (Meta? A line of smut? A paragraph? A drabble? A ficlet? A full story? We'll see.)

04:14 pm - meme. In this case, THE MEME THAT INSPIRES PRESSING GUILT IN ME.
Post a paragraph from every WIP you can find. No explanations allowed, just the excerpt.

the one where Uhura is forced to accept an unwelcome gift for her diplomatic services )

the one where Jim Kirk grows up. Sort of. )

the one where everyone is, has been, and will be female. Except, like, Uhura, and who cares about him? )

the one where Sulu sets out to seduce Admiral Pike by being a complete and utter geek about his job  )

Purloined from [info]boosette and [info]taraljc :

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any story I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

06:18 pm - hurr hurr hurr, 'qualifications', geddit
Two stories written for the latest [info]where_no_woman drabblefest; both were inspired by prompt #22: "I have no use for people who have learned the limits of the possible."

Title: Qualifications
Rating: PG
Summary: This is... probably not the reasoning Scotty gave for picking Ensign Gaila to join Enterprise's engineering department, but it's the reasoning he wanted to give, okay?

Ensign Gaila is not the best engineer of the graduating class... )

Title: On Pride
Rating: PG
Summary: Christine Chapel believes, on an intellectual level, in knowing when to pick her battles.

Once, the counselor asks her about the emergency work she did in the wake of the attack. )

06:48 am - Holding a Drabblefest on the Back of a Turtle
We have another set of prompts at [info]where_no_woman -- this time taken from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. That said, knowledge of his canon is not necessary to understand the prompts, and you should not feel obligated to try to produce a crossover. All drabbles are welcome!

[pay no mind to the enormous time lapse between posting and pimping, eh wot?]

did I think it would be a good idea to do NaNoWriMo this year?

03:53 pm - Making up for the dearth of memes on this here blag, I am!
Stolen from [info]syredronning :

Never Will I Ever Meme: Name a fic you think I will never, ever, ever write. In return, I will attempt to write a snippet of that fic.

Have at it. I beg encourage you to come up with fic ideas that could actually be fics you would want to read in the hands of a more competent author, though, along with the expected horrific and fascinating prompts involving Kirk as a weepy pregnant man. :'D

03:18 pm - To honor my newly deceased attention span:
Leave a comment with a character and/or pairing you know I write, and I will write you a 100 word drabble.

Caveat: I am not actually good at limited word counts because hellooooooo, utter lack of self control, so that could end up anywhere from like 50 to 500 words.

10:33 pm - things the gag reel has taught me
I really do think that Chekov is super sekkritly Pike's son. For some reason, I am utterly convinced that Pike was married or at least in a stable relationship with some gorgeous Russian scientist during the whole second half of his twenties and that they made a beautiful curly-haired baby boy together before he was promoted to captain and she, being a Stereotypical Romantic Russian, told him she would not be his mistress, since obvs. he was now married to his ship. They parted amicably after a night of much drinking and she raised her son himself, with Pike as the 'much-beloved visiting uncle' sort of father.

ANYWAY the point is all this inexplicable backstory adds a whole nother dimension, let me tell you, to watching Greenwood zip of his fly while Yelchin watched intently. :'D I hadn't realized how strong my conviction was until I saw that and was all OH GOD NO. But it was okay because then I reminded myself that they were just the actors, not the real people. And then I reminded myself that Pike and Chekov are a) not real people and b) almost certainly not related anywhere outside my head!

*evaporates*

06:48 pm - apparently I am no longer able to write anything but prompt!fic! yay!
Title: Going
Author: [info]possibly_thrice
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Gaila/OCs implied.
Summary: Gaila, slave of the Syndicate, who might someday soon play courtesan for gods, but who will always be a spy for pirates, finds herself discontent. And deals with it. Written for prompt #16 at [info]where_no_woman : "I am going away...to an unknown country where I shall have no past and no name, and where I shall be born again with a new face and an untried heart."
A/N: ENT canon bugs the hell out of me. So I... wrote this.

Sometimes, at night, the Mother comes to her chamber... )

...WHICH I was forced to drop out of due to eddicational things, I'm posting the drabbles I wrote for it. In reverse chronological order!

08:23 pm - EEEEEEEEE.
[info]framlingem just linked me to her utterly gorgeous reading of my Amanda drabble and oh, it makes me ridiculously happy to hear it aloud. Narcissism? What narcissism? I feel like a bit of a creepster because her voice is so pretty but hey, I have justification! *drips glee*

I was also going to post some Very Deep Thoughts about how peculiar and enlightening and just plain different it is to hear what you've written read aloud by someone else, but I am being distracted by my dog so I will spare you.

09:24 pm - To make myself feel better about my persistent absence...
...I am posting some of the better short fic I've been dishing out mercilessly in moments of extraordinary procrastination, and prefacing it with belated encouragement to go read and vote at [info]redshirt_roster , since we haven't had enough yet to determine this week's winner and loser.

In no particular order --

For "the best damn drabble fest in the 'verse" at [info]where_no_woman , prompt #16: 'Well, I guess death will solve the issue to everyone's satisfaction'; Amanda-centric:

The pain, at least, surprises her. )

The following are my favorites of the several stories I've written for the prompt tables at
[info]pike_numberone , and are listed by prompt rather than first line because consistency is overrated:

16. fantasies )

28. mirror )

30. mornings )

08:04 pm - dear me, is that a routine I see on the horizon line
IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN! Time to vote at [info]redshirt_roster ! Or. You know. Not.

Entries can be found here, the place to post your votes is here.

Also:

Title: Fairest
Author: [info]possibly_thrice
Rating: PG
Pairing: Gaila/Kirk, Pike/Kirk implied if you, uh, squint with context.
Summary: Prompt from the mirror!kink meme: (Following [info]darkrosetiger's series) Mirror!Kirk is Mirror!Pike's boy, and after he's done exceptionally well at something, Pike buys him a treat: Mirror!Gaila. Gaila awaits this ever so pleasant transaction and... contemplates.
A/N: There's some bonus vague speculation as to what Mirror!Orion would be like in here, and if you want to tell me what your personal conception of it is, guys, that would be kind of awesome, because I am v. curious as to theories.

Gaila knows how to make herself good to look at... )
